This Glossary is meant to offer the students support for learning key textile terms of the 6 educational modules in all the languages of the project.
LANGUAGE	TERM	Texture
EN CZ NL PT RO SI	DEFINITION	Texture as used for fabrics is the surface finish of a fabric. We also call it surface topography. It describes the nature of the surface, as defined by the lay (the predominant surface pattern), the surface roughness (the surface irregularities) and the waviness (irregularities with spacing greater than the surface roughness). Every fabric has it?s own texture, but representing it correctly in software is very hard, requiring approximations to obtain for example a good simulated image of a fabric. The texture will determine how light reflects from a fabric, and how the fabric feels under touch.
